Finding High Heels That Won't Kill Your Feet
In continuing our self-help posts, we thought we would offer a little fit advice for those that succumbed to the skyscraper heel trend that flew through the fashion world this summer. What to look for when shopping for high-heels: The Right Padding: Look for padding under your heels and the balls of your feet to absorb shock and add comfort. Materials That Breathe: Choose breathable leather or suede. Avoid synthetics, which can increase perspiration.A Little Flexibility: The ideal shoes will flex at the balls of the feet, not at the arches. To test: try on the shoes and raise...3 Comfy Superhighs
A few weeks ago, we wrote about the wonder-woman powers we receive when wearing high-heels. Needless to say we have a word of caution for those looking to give Lynda Carter a run for her money....find a comfy pair for god sakes! It is no fun to feel on top of the world for a few hours only to come crumbling down to a weeping-moaning pile of human-ness the morning after. With that said, we hit a few of the local boutiques over the weekend and found a few pair that tipped the comfy scale. Marciano Garvin; Textured Leather...PeepToe Shoes: Red Bottom's Have a New Home

Still, there are items that you shouldn't skimp on. This is almost too obvious to mention, but it does bear repeating: Never Buy Cheap Shoes. If they're not constructed well, they will literally be a pain in your rear-end, your back, your ankles, your everywhere, while the right "pricey" pair can elevate an entire look. "You can fool somebody if you've got a good shoe and a good bag," says Jeffrey Kalinsky of the luxury boutiques Jeffrey. "If you spot someone in a fabulous pair of Pierre Hardy shoes and a killer Dior bag, you're going to assume that...Getting Zippy With It
With all the talk about Spring Styles, we decided to depart from talking about sandals and flats and...get zippy with it! Yes, zippers have started to make their way into designers pallets as accents - departing from the functional aspects of zippers as we know it. Many of these designs made their way into Spring collections, but look for zippers to be a hot accent for the upcoming Fall collections. We have highlighted a few of our favorites: Christian Louboutin Rodita Zip Plaforms: ($835.00) Via Net-A-Porter Sergio Rossi Zipper Sandals: ($744.00) Via Zappos Tania Spinelli Cage Heels(Summer Collection): Via...How to make sure high heels fit correctly
Since walking gracefully in high heels requires balance, you need to make sure that the shoes fit correctly. A shoe that doesn't fit can lead to all sorts of problems, including calluses, corns and falls. When you try the shoes on, you should take a minute to test the fit.Step 1: Put the shoes securely on your feet. Try on the shoe just like you would wear it. This means putting both shoes on and securing any buckles. Step 2: Walk across the room. Once you have a pair of heels on your feet, you need to walk around...Trend Watch: Heel-less "mainstream" in '08?
While certain footwear designs are embraced by the market, others simply remain a creative expression for designers, existing as a moment-in-time example of experimentation. "I've been playing around with the idea of [heel-less shoes] since the 1970's, and I always find it intriguing," said designer Manolo Blahnik. "It's not something that I do thinking of sales, it's actually quite the opposite - it offers me the chance to move away from what people expect from me." Blahnik has created several heel-less shoes, including the Bhutan (pictured above) from his spring '06 collection, which is currently on display in the...Top Trends: Haute Heels
As we covered last week, Cork, Fishet, and Feathers have made their way into this year's Spring Shoe Collections. As if that wasn't enough, designers have focused on the much neglected heel by adding exotic detailing with museum like amenities. We were a little taken back by this focus as (in seasons past) most of the embellishments and details have usually been found on the top of the shoe. One theory is that designers felt the rest of the shoe was neglected because this season--the most innovative designs have been found on the heels. Case in point: (pic ref...Shoes of the Day: Emilio Pucci Retro Print Heels
